    Mission: Impossible on DVD
Woo-hoo, time to do the dance of joy. Mission: Impossible TV episodes are supposed to be coming to DVD. I've only seen a handful of episodes un-cut so that will be a real treat. I hope they'll have some interesting extras like interviews with Martin Landau and Barbara Bain.

    eHarmony
After listening to some other women at a Single Volunteers event mention how they had joined the dating
service eharmony, I decided to give the free trial a whirl. Well if the free trial is any indication of the real thing,
I can't imagine paying money to join. So far a lot of the matches have been significantly shorter than me. It'd be one thing if they were an inch shorter, but we're talking 5 inches! And since guys often lie about their height, they're probably 6 inches shorter! And many of them live in the way-far boonies and are excercise fanatics. Supposedly eHarmony matches you on compatability, but I get the impression that they're only matching on whether they're a member of the opposite sex! Blarrgh!

    Fanfic Crossovers
Courtesy of fannish 5, What five crossovers would you like to see?

    1. Space: 1999/X-files

Someone on a Space: 1999 listserv once had a very intriguing idea for a cross-over. It's too bad they never
wrote it. There was lots of intrigue and cover-ups of aliens discovered on the moon. Commissioner Simmonds was probably in league with Cigarette Smoking Man.

    2. Mission: Impossible/Remington Steele

I was leaving thru my old tv memorabilia photo albums and remembering how much I used to enjoy Remington Steele. A cross-over with M:I would be a great romp and it would be fun to have Remington flirt with Cinnamon and provide some competition for Rollin.

    3. Stargate SG-1/Space: 1999

I think the interplay between the characters would be fun, although the Gou'ald could wipe out the Alphans in the blink of an eye. I guess the Alphans would have to slip back to their universe before the Gou'ald found out about them.

    4. Quantum Leap/Space: 1999

I always thought there could be an interesting story where Sam leaps into the life of John Koenig before he came to Alpha. Perhaps the leap could center around the death of Jean Koenig and her role in the life of John Koenig.

    5. Mission: Impossible/Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island

Yeah, I'm warped, but people who know me have known that for a while now! :) And while we're on the subject of zany crossovers, I would also like to read a good ALF/Space: 1999 crossover. And it's too bad that Futurama was cancelled because I kept hoping that they would have an episode where they met the Alphans.

    Farewell Jerry Orbach
As I was walking past the library's row of television monitors, I learned that tv, stage and movie star Jerry Orback died of prostate cancer. He was great in films such as Crimes and Misdemeanors and Dirty Dancing and of course, Beauty and the Beast . I even remember him guest starring as an evil record producer on an episode of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century . I guess I'll have to get out my soundtracks to 42nd Street and The Fantastics and remember him that way.

    Funny kitty cat story
Sunday morning I was watching a show called "Animal Atlas," which had a story about monkeys. Well Dilbert got all excited, started staring at the TV set and then ran over and tried to see if the monkeys were in the tv set. Usually she doesn't give a hoot what's on TV, but this nature show really made her excited.
Maybe I should leave Animal Planet on all day when I'm at work to entertain her! :) Maybe next year I should buy her one of those tapes of birds and squirrels and chipmunks frolicking. She seems like she'd enjoy it. She and her sister Sammy enjoyed their Christmas presents. Don't tell my brother but I may have spent more on my cats than on him! :( I went by Petco on Christmas eve looking for cat beds and the selection was so woeful that I didn't buy
any. Instead I bought warm blankets for them. I put one on the back of the sofa and one on the floor. The one on the sofa is quite popular. While I was there, I saw a scratching post, so I got that too since their old one is pretty worn out. I put that in the dining room and rubbed it with catnip which got them to use it! They really liked that. Should I be buying that new action figure called "Nutty Cat Lady'? Probably. :)

    Christmas Quiz
Here's a Christmas quiz that my friend Amanda Russell sent me.

    1. What is your favorite Christmas song?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry

    2. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

    A Christmas Story

2B. What is your favorite Christmas special?

Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol (with Gerald McBoingBoing as Tiny Tim)

    3. What is your favorite Christmas ornament?

The penguins that I recently bought.

    4. What is your favorite Christmas drink?

I guess Egg Nog, if it's good Egg Nog (which isn't always the case).

    5. What was your favorite Christmas present?

When I was four, I got a Zorro tent. I also got everybody in the apartment up at 4 AM so I could open my presents, then I was so tired I went back to sleep.

    6. What was the worst Christmas present you ever got?

I think it was the "Book of Terns," which was a book of puns about Terns that my clunk-headed high school boyfriend got me. He didn't think at all about my interests and just grabbed a book off the book rack!

    7. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?

    Danish Butter cookies.

    8. What is your favorite Christmas cake?

It isn't Fruit cake (unless it's got a ton of whiskey in it!) Pumpkin pie (which isn't a cake, but it's a great dessert!

    9. What did you do or ask Santa for the very first time you sat on his lap?

I don't remember. I'm not even sure I ever sat on Santa's lap. We were in Paris from when I was born til when I was four. I'm not sure that the
French go in for that! And he's not called Santa. He's Pere Noel. Unless maybe they had a party at the American Embassy for the kids and they had a Santa. I do remember that in Africa, Father Christmas arrived in a helicopter but I think I might have been too old to sit on his lap by then.

    10. How old were you when you found out that mommy and daddy were Santa?

    Hmm, maybe 7.

    11. Do you still leave out milk and cookies for Santa to see if he really exist, or have you wised up by now?

If I left those out, my cats would enjoy the milk, but probably leave the cookies.

    12. Do you like to go out and shop or buy presents on line?

On line or in book or record stores.

    13. Have you ever dressed up as Santa or one of his helpers?

I'd be a mighty big elf!

    14. Do you wrap the presents or let someone else do it for you?

I do it myself, unless gift wrapping comes with the sale.

    15. Have you ever made a snow man?

I have tried to, but there wasn't usually enough snow in D.C. to do it.

    16. When do you start to decorate your house or apartment?

Sadly, I must confess to not being much of a tree person. The cats would just knock the ornaments around and break them and probably try to climb
the tree and cause a mess. I do put up a few little knick knacky ornaments (Santa Snoopy, Garfield Santa, frolicking penguins, tacky Snowmen).

    17. Have you ever been on a hay ride?

Nope and I'm not sure what they have to do with Christmas. Around here, they're more common at Halloween.

    18. What time do you open your presents on Christmas?

Christmas Day. Sometimes in the past, we did it on Christmas Eve.

    19. Do you spend too much on Christmas presents?

    No.

    20. Would you like to celebrate Christmas twice a year?

No, you can always give people more birthday presents and leave the ornaments up year around.

    Captain James T. Kirk

You save lives. What's a few small fractures
of protocol when you've saved the galaxy more
times than you can count. Hell, you even
brought peace between the Federations and the
    Klingons.

    Which Go'uald am I?
    You are Hathor!
You are Hathor! Sexy, drop dead gorgeous, men
literally fall at your feet thanks to your pink
chemical thing which you use to control them
and make them fall in love with you. You then
use their DNA to create new goa'ulds, being a
goa'uld queen. You have a teensy problem with
being a gigantic bitch though. Never mind. Who
needs niceties, when you have Jack and Daniel
to toy with at your whim? And come on, youre
considered the goddess of sex, drugs, and rock
and roll, as Jack puts it, so you know youve
got more style than any of the other goaulds!

    Ragdoll
You are a Ragdoll! You are known for your laid
back attitude. You are the ultimate in

the house all day than seek adventure.

    ebay
I love when certain supposed big name fans in a tiny postage stamp sized fandom tell you that you "gotta share" when you win rare things that they lusted after on ebay. And of course, the only time that you ever hear any mention of sharing is when you won something they wanted. If they won something you wanted, they wouldn't offer to share and if you asked would probably ignore you or wait til you sent your part of the trade and then conveniently become too busy to send their part! I've traded with quite a few people and just given xeroxes of stuff to other people because I like them, but I dislike heavy-handed attempts to get at stuff that I won. I've also had some unfortunate trades where the people didn't deliver on their part of the trade. One of the people has serious health problems so I decided to let it slide.

I also find it hysterically funny how upset a supposedly "Big Name Fan" became when I outbid her at the last minute to win a rare photo of Martin Landau for the measly price of 15.50! If this person really wanted that photo, she should have bid higher! I also find it funny because she's forgotten how many times that she outbid me for rare photos and that a close friend of hers used to routinely outbid me on rare things! Somehow this Big Name Fan thinks that after all this outbidding we have some sort of ebay non-aggression pact and I should let her win whatever she wants. I'm sure she would have tried to outbid me if I had staked my claim to the item with an early bid and then given me some BS story about how she needed the photo for the good of the Martin Landau fan club! Oh spare me your lies! Ebay items go to the highest bidder.

    Television Quiz
This is a quiz that a friend sent me.

    AS A YOUNGSTER:

    1. My favorite television series were:

I Love Lucy, McHale's Navy (yeah, yeah, what can I say?),
Mr. Ed, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Lost in Space and Star Trek

    2. My favorite animated/cartoon series were:

The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Top Cat, Speed Racer, original Spider-Man cartoon

    3. I used to beg my parents to let me stay up late to watch:

I'm not really sure about when I was a pre-teen. I think by
the time I was 13, I used to ask to borrow their tv set at night in the summers so I could watch the Mission: Impossible reruns that were on at 1:30 or so in the morning!

    4. My favorite movie/movies as a youngster were:

I can't really remember. It would have had to have been something that aired on television because my parents didn't really believe in going out to the movies when I was a kid. I guess musicals that came on television.

    5. My favorite Disney movie as a youngster was:

The Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo

    6. My parents never should have let me see this movie when I was younger. Why?

Snow White. I think this was the first movie I saw (I was
about four and the scenes with the Witch scared the crap out of me! I think I had nightmares for quite a while afterwards!

AS AN ADULT (at whatever age, if ever, you feel this
transition ever took place -- answers in this section can apply things from the past and present):

    1. What are your favorite television series of all time?

The Simpsons, Space: 1999, original cheesy Trek, Futurama

    2. What are your favorite movies of all time?

Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Singin' in the Rain, Gay
Divorcee, Grease (yeah, yeah, what can I say?)

    3. Your favorite Disney movie as an adult?

Home on The Range, Dumbo is still good, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin

    4. Everyone I know loved this movie, but I really didn't like it?

Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler! Blarrgh!

    5. Everyone I know loved this television series, but I
    really didn't like it?

Frasier lost its excitement for me very early on, but a lot
of people I know seemed to love it til the end. I also hate soap operas and don't see how anyone can watch them. And Everyone Loves Raymond except me! :)

    6. It seems everyone I know has seen this movie, but I
    haven't:

Fahrenheit 9/11 (no real desire to see it), last Lord of the Rings (missed it because it came out right near the time that my mom passed away)

    7. If I have to sit through one more episode of this
    television series, I'll scream!

Entertainment Tonight--I used to watch that all the time but I stopped watching when they started devoting half the shows to Playboy models and young stupid actors I had never heard of! I also can't stand most reality television shows.

    8. If I have to sit through one more showing of this movie, I'll scream!

Not sure, maybe Martin's Ready to Rumble--that was pretty
    bad!

    9. Looking back, this television series really inspired me:

Space: 1999, which led to me making some very good friends

    10. Looking back, this television series really warped my mind:

Lost in Space, Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, Lancelot Link

    11. Looking back, this movie really inspired me:

    Star Wars

    13. Looking back, I can't believe I watched this television series and enjoyed it:

    McHale's Navy, Ultraman, Astro Boy

    14. Looking back, I can't believe I watched this movie and enjoyed it:

Grease, that whole part about Olivia Newton-John changing
into a slut for John Travolta is pretty offensive but it's still filled with great music and dancing and is very enjoyable. I re-watched it recently and had to laugh at how old all the actors looked.

    15. I have proof that Hollywood is awash in drug usage.
    Just look at:

Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island, Mork and Mindy,
Partridge Family, Lancelot Link, HR Puf'n'stuff, Scooby Doo, Green Acres

    Animated Fannish five quiz
This is an old fannish five quiz.

    animated 5
    from slashmommy

    1. What was the latest animated movie you've seen? Did you like it?

A Shark's Tale. It was okay, but I thought that Finding Nemo covered the undersea animation tale much better. Plus, I'd rather watch a movie in which Ellen DeGeneres is one of the lead voice artists than one in which Renee Zwelliger and Angelina Jolie are the lead female voices. A Shark's Tale was too much like an animated Godfather under the sea.

    2. What is your all time favorite animated film?

Hmm, maybe "Home on the Range," which features Judi Dench as an elder stateswoman, proper British cow and Roseanne Barr as a bossy cow and Jennifer Tilly as a new age cow. Joe Flaherty of SCTV is a crotchety old goat. Randy Quaid is great as a character who can best be described as Yosemite Sam on steroids! And to top it off there are songs by Bonnie Raitt and KD Lang. It really rocks!

    3. Which animated film would you be most willing to buy or see as a re-release in the theatre?

I'd kind of like to see Ralph Bakshi's American Pop again. I saw that one in high school and thought it was an interesting attempt to do an animated history of popular American movie set against the backdrop of an American immigrant family.

    4. What is your favorite animated film soundtrack?

Probably Beauty and the Beast because it has the most songs that you can sing along with and you can't go wrong with a musical that has Jerry Orbach.

    5. What animated films do you read or write?

I've never written any fan fiction about animated movies. I think animation definetely needs the images to be successful. I will confess to reading Simpsons and Futurama comic books, does that count for the reading part? :)

    Tired already
After standing in line to vote for almost an hour, I'm tired already! The line went out the door and almost to the top of the block! I don't ever recall the lines being that long before. I felt sorry for the senior citizens who had to wait that long. Luckily an election worker did bring out a ballot for two elderly ladies who walked with canes and let them sit at a picnic bench in front of the middle school to fill their ballots out. I always find it amusing to see the nuns standing in line to vote. There is a convent in our precinct so that explains the large nun vote. I noticed two cops, discreetly keeping track of things but our precinct is pretty quiet so I would imagine they wouldn't have much to do. There were a few visiting Chinese observing the election. I wonder what they thought of it all. A co-worker who lives in a nearby precinct said that he was interviewed for a French newspaper about the election and gave the reporter an earful about what he thought of Bush. Hee Hee. I wonder if the television reporters are already calling the election. With two percent of the votes in, we can safely say that Ralph Nader is not winning this one! :)

    Friday five (on Monday)
    1) who was your favorite band/musician when you were younger?

    The Beatles

    2) why?

Because there music was great and in their early days they always seemed like they were having fun. Although most of the other kids in junior high seemed to like their post-Sergeant Pepper's music the most, I always preferred their earlier music. It was rawer and more energetic. Easier to dance to as well! And I have hazy memories of seeing the Beatles cartoon circa 1967 or so when we went to Oklahoma on home leave.

    3) are they still your favorite/one of your favorites?

Yes. I have most of their albums as compact discs and some photo books on them. I also found my Yellow Submarine storybook the other day.

    4) what is your favorite of their songs?

    Hmm, maybe "She Loves You."

    5) are there any specific lyrics you hold dear?

"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" :) Also, "Hard Day's Night" and "Help!"

    Martin Landau's Emmy nomination
I took yesterday off and returned to a zillion emails about Martin Landau being nominated for an Emmy for his guest appearance as an Alzheimer's patient on "Without a Trace." I watched that episode and thought Martin's performance was good but not great. Yeah, kick me out of his fan club. :) If he wins for this performance, it will be in lieu of the Emmies he should have won for Mission: Impossible. And in terms of guest appearances, he should have won for his 1963 Outer Limits role as Andro in "The Man Who Was Never Born." Still it will be interesting to see who wins in that category, especially since Martin is up against William Shatner. It will be like Commander Koenig versus Captain Kirk on celebrity grudge match! :)
